By using the internet to offer their services and their products, businesses are able to find new markets and new customers too. This new tactic has opened up a whole new way of doing business. Marketing managers who specialize in e-commerce are expected to develop and implement the plans to assist companies in the sales and marketing opportunities that the internet offers.
A marketing manager who specializes in electronic commerce is primarily responsible for defining a company's intents for using e-commerce, and making decisions on which computer programs are necessary to use to achieve these goals. They assist in developing plans for marketing that help to understand how the proposals for the e-commerce way of working will profit the company. Also, they will monitor the company's strategies as they are being put into use, to ensure that deadlines are being met by the technical teams, and schedule any incoming projects. Other responsibilities include designing the budgets for projects, incorporating executive level feedback, monitoring the costs of projects, and providing reports on the status of projects to management.
A Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree in a business field, either through university or online business courses, is a necessity to become an electronic marketing manager. Also needed are some basic business skills, in which internet -based applications are used, and an ability to excel in a very technical environment.
Salary.com states that the median annual income for a marketing manager specializing in electronic commerce was $84, 246 in 2006. The top-earning 25% earned above $98,127. Although most salaries are dependant on certain experience and qualifications, they usually do include such attractive benefits as stock options, paid vacations, exceptional medical benefits, retirement and savings plans and even plans for profit-sharing.
By earning a four year college degree, you can be on your way to becoming an electronic commerce marketing manager. A Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and information technology or a Bachelor of Arts degree in humanities or communications can be good foundations. The best alternative, however, is a Bachelor's degree in marketing.
Getting professional training in e-marketing technical or trade schools, or even programs specializing in online marketing will be a good supplement to a college education. By mastering HTML, you will be at an advantage on a professional level.
There are entry-level positions in e-marketing, and by having a marketing degree, you will get the attention of different employers who are looking to hire competent people. If you emphasize any self-acquired knowledge that you have gained in a field not related to e-commerce marketing on your resume, it will show you as a self-starter.
You can start at an entry level position, but, by distinguishing yourself as a good worker, you will be rewarded with more responsibility while still working at entry-level. A junior-level position will give you more knowledge and experience on current e-marketing methods, rather than the creation of an e-marketing policy.
Your management and delegation skills will come into play when you reach a senior level position of an electronic marketing team. You will also need an understanding of the layout of websites and excellent search engine optimization skills.
Because most companies would rather have employees grow with them, rather than hire experienced outside professionals for senior management positions, learn about a company's promotion policies. Generally, a current employee understands a company's procedures and policies better than someone who has not worked with the company.
To qualify for an electronic marketing manager position, you will need the experience gained from a senior position, at least 3 years' worth. If you are wanting to apply for a management position in e-marketing at a new organization, you will probably want to show several years of previous experience with other companies, working at the same level..
